Book description:

Within the boiler, piping and pressure vessel industry, pressure relief devices are considered one of the most important safety components. These Devices are literally the last line of defense against catastrophic failure or even lose of life. Written in plain language, this fifth book in the ASME Simplified series addresses the various codes and recommended standards of practice for the maintenance and continued operations of pressure relief valves as specified by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the American Petroleum Institute. Covered in this book are: preventive maintenance procedures, methods for evaluation of mechanical components and accepted methods for cleaning, adjusting and lubricating various components to assure continued operation and speed performance as well as procedures for recording and evaluating these items.

  • ASME and API code requirements

  • Design specifications and code calculations

  • Manufacturing and pressure relief valves

  • Sizing and selection of pressure relief valves and rupture disks

  • Installation, operation, maintenance, inspection, and testing

Bolster your last line of defense against catastrophic equipment failure or even loss of life with the ASME and API code on pressure relief devices

Written by a seasoned inspector and educator with over thirty years of experience, this valuable resource addresses that recommended standards for the safe operations and the continued maintenance of pressure relief devices as specified by both ASME and API code. This handy reference clearly details proper sizing, selection, and installation of pressure relief devices to ensure adequate protection and reduce hazards. Readers will also find expert instruction on preventative maintenance procedures, methods for evaluating mechanical components, and accepted methods for cleaning, adjusting, and lubricating various components to ensure continued operation and speed performance.

The tools needed to:

  • Properly size and select pressure relief devices as per ASME and API code

  • Determine the flow requirements for process upsets, equipment failure, and fire

  • Install pressure relief devices

  • Understand relief valve and rupture disk documentation and inspection and testing requirements as per code

  • Utilize relief valve skilling equations for vapors, steam, and liquids

Contents That Simplify and Clarify the ASME and API Code: Fundamentals, Materials, Design, Manufacturing, Safety Valves for Boilers, Pressure Relief Devices for Pressure Vessels, Pressure Relief Devices for Nuclear Systems, Pressure Relief Devices for Transport Tanks, Pressure Relief Devices for Petroleum Industries, Installation, Operation, Maintenance, Repairs, Shop Testing, Terminology
